Marri Sasidhar Reddy warns students against suicides over Telangaana Issue

Sanathnagar Congress MLA, Marri Shashidhar Reddy has asked students not to end their lives for the cause of Telangana. He also requested the Centre to soon take a decision on the Telangana issue. 

It may be recalled that Santosh, a BSc student at Osmania University committed suicide on Wednesday over delay in declaring separate statehood for Telangana. The incident sparked wide protests from students as well as Telangana supporters, creating a tense atmosphere in the campus.

Prohibitory orders extended in old Hyderabad

In view of the continued communal tensions, the police today extended prohibitory orders in the limits of five police stations in the old city.

 

The prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC would continue for three more days during night in the limits of Charminar, Hussaini Alam, Mirchowk, Shalibanda and Moghalpura police stations of South Zone, Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma said.

Earlier, prohibitory orders in seven police stations limits were imposed on November 6 which ended today.

Rs 6.7 crore seized from auto, hawala deal suspected

The police seized Rs 6.7 crore from a auto driver on Wednesday in Hyderabad. The police suspect that the cash could be part of a hawala transaction.
 

A traffic police team spotted the auto ( AP 09 TA 5602) near the DCP office on Wednesday afternoon. As the police  intercepted the auto, the driver became nervous, which led the team to search the auto. 

During the search  the police  found a box placed under the seat which was stuffed with Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes amounting  to Rs 6.7 crore.   The police have informed the Income Tax Department, which immediately started investigations to ascertain the source and destination of  the seized cash.

The police are yet confirm if the currency is real or fake. The driver of the auto managed to flee from the spot.

'Telangana people do not require CM post'

Telangana people do not require chief minister post, said  Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy on Wednesday.

Making this sensational comment today, he said that he was prepared to explain  the reason for making this statement to the  Congress high command.

Jana Reddy talking to mediapersons in Hyderabad said the  high command should take a decision on the contentious issue at the earliest.

OU tense after student ends life over 'T'

Frustrated over the delay in formation of a separate Telangana state, an Osmania University student committed suicide, leading to tension in the campus on Wednesday. V. Santosh, a degree student of a college in the city, hung himself from a tree in front of Arts College in Osmania University, which has been witnessing violent protests by students for last three years demanding separate statehood to Telangana.

The student, hailing from Adilabad district, resorted to the extreme step on Tuesday night. He left behind a suicide note, blaming 'ruling classes' for creating hurdles in the formation of a Telangana state.
As the word spread, a large number of students gathered on the campus early Wednesday, raising slogans against the government.
Tension prevailed on the campus as students resisted police attempts to shift the body for autopsy.
They even thrashed a policeman in plainclothes.
The protestors were demanding that the body not be shifted till all ministers and MPs of Congress party from Telangana submit their resignations. They also want to take out funeral procession from the university to Gun Park near the state assembly. Police, however, refused them permission.
Osmania University students' Joint Action committee has called for a shutdown of all educational institutions in Telangana.
The university postponed all examinations scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
Pro-Telangana groups of over 600 people, mostly youth, have committed suicide towards their demand for a separate state during the last three years.

Four-day seminar on small airport operations in city

Airports Council International, Asia-Pacific, is organising a four-day seminar here which will address concerns and interests of small airport operations.  The seminar, to be held from November 7 till November 10, is the first of its kind to be held after formation of Small Airports Network by the Airports Council International (ACI), Asia-Pacific. HMDA to rope in public to save Hussain Sagar

 

To enlist public participation in bringing back the pristine glory of the picturesque Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has launched a forum. The 'Forum for a Clean Hussain Sagar' is a platform for concerned citizens to share, discuss, initiate and also execute programmes that will help clean the Hussain Sagar lake, HMDA officials said. Spread across an area of around five kms, Hussain Sagar, the scenic lake in the heart of Hyderabad was built by Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali in 1562 during the rule of Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah initially to meet the irrigation and drinking water needs of the city. 

Though it is an artificial lake, it holds water perennially. Over the years, it has become a tourist spot and bears the identity of the city. A huge statue of Gautam Buddha was installed in the middle of the lake and several parks and scenic spots were developed making it a major tourist destination in the city. However, the inflow of domestic sewage and industrial effluents have polluted the lake. Besides these, during the ten-day Ganesh festivity, thousands of idols are immersed in the lake. Consequently, the lake that was once the identity and pride of the city is now fighting for its existence.
The HMDA has taken up Hussain Sagar Lake and Catchment Area Improvement Project (HCIP) with the assistance of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Although significant progress has been made under the JICA-assisted HCIP Project, there is still much to be done in terms of increasing awareness among the people and changing behaviour, the officials said.
The objectives of the forum are to establish a 'people's movement' to clean and protect Hussain Sagar lake, to initiate and execute programmes that will prevent pollution of the lake and ultimately to change people's domestic and public sanitation habits, they said.
The membership of the forum is open to individuals, corporates, PSUs, IT/ITES, government departments, NGOs and educational institutions, among others, the officials said. The members of the forum would undertake programmes that will create awareness on issues faced by the lake, execute programmes to prevent lake pollution, participate in HMDA activities and act as a source of information on prevention of lake pollution. The members can join the forum on a special website created for the purpose and also on Facebook.
The advantages of being a member are permission to use the forum logo in all promotional literature concerning Hussain Sagar, guidance from HMDA and members in organising effective public awareness campaigns, invitation to events conducted by HMDA concerning a Clean Hussain Sagar lake, a Forum Excellence Award, recognition from senior government dignitaries for meritorious work, during public functions.

YSRCP demands immediate relief for flood victims

YSR Congress Party today came down heavily on the Government for its total failure in anticipating the intensity of the Nilam cyclone and the resultant floods in the state.

Addressing media persons in Hyderabad, party MLA G.Srikanth Reddy demanded the Government to make immediate arrangements for payment of financial relief to the victims who suffered property and crop losses due to the heavy floods.

Srikanth Reddy said there are neither medical camps nor drinking water supplies in the flood-hit areas. Heavy property and crop losses occurred in Krishna, Guntur, Prakasham and Godavari districts because of the Government’s negligence and the victims should be compensated immediately.

Taking objection to the Minister Raghuvera Reddy’s announcement that there was no danger from the Nialm, Srikanth Reddy sought an explanation from the Minister on what basis he made the statement.

“The Government should openly admit its failure in anticipating the intensity of the natural calamity and take steps for immediate relief to the farmers and others who lost their crops and property,” he demanded.

It is good the Government has announced ex-gratia for the families of those who lost their lives in the floods but immediate announcement of relief for others is also important as well, he said.

Srinkanth Reddy objected to the statements of some ministers that central teams would visit to assess the flood damage. “What is the use of such teams? The Government has not yet paid the input subsidy promised to farmers during the Jal cyclone in the past,” he remarked.

Naidu desperate for power

Srikanth Reddy said TDP President Chandrababu Naidu is desperate for power and his visits to the flood hit areas seemed to be aiming at votes.

During his 9-year rule, Naidu never thought of irrigation, drainage system and loan or interest waiver but now he is making all promises to the people. “He kept quiet when Karnataka built projects during his rule and because of that we are experiencing the floods now,” he said, adding people won’t believe his promises going by his past record.

Lenders may take legal action against DCHL after audit

Lenders to Deccan Chronicle Holdings (DCHL) would take a joint decision on future action once the forensic audit report of the Hyderabad-based company is submitted, a senior Canara Bank official said today.

 

Probably we may initiate . we may take legal action, Canara Bank Executive Director A K Gupta told reporters when asked about the course of action once the audit report is out.
 Probably this month it (report on the forensic audit of Deccan Chronicle Holdings by Deloitte will be ready) must come, let's see, he said.
 Canara Bank would be in touch with other lenders and take a joint decision on what needs to be done in this case. A joint decision will be taken, he said.
 Canara Bank has an exposure of Rs 330 crore to DCHL, he said. In the second quarter, the bank has made a provision of Rs 225 crore following the slippage on this account, Gupta added.
