The police seized Rs 6.7 crore from a
auto driver on Wednesday in Hyderabad. The police suspect that the cash
could be part of a hawala transaction.
A traffic police team spotted the auto (
AP 09 TA 5602) near the DCP office on Wednesday afternoon. As the
police intercepted the auto, the driver became nervous, which led the
team to search the auto.
During the search the police found a
box placed under the seat which was stuffed with Rs 500 and Rs 1000
notes amounting to Rs 6.7 crore. The police have informed the Income
Tax Department, which immediately started investigations to ascertain
the source and destination of the seized cash.
The police are yet confirm if the currency is real or fake. The driver of the auto managed to flee from the spot.
